More on Monterey Cypress
Cypress’ ability to withstand the elements is the very thing that makes it an ideal wood for outdoor furniture and building projects. These trees have developed a distinctive substance called cypressene, which acts as a natural preservative, making it extremely resistant to decay and insect attack.
When first cut, the wood is a pale blonde color. Left out in the elements, it turns to a lovely, silvery gray. If left indoors, with finish applied, it will retain its natural color, and will deepen to a rich amber hue.
